Connecting to your SQL Server Database
with Enterprise Manager
You can obtain SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager through Microsoft at the following
URL: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/trial/default.asp
You are able to download and use the 'Client Tools' free of charge with the SQL Server
2000 Evaluation Software.
| When you first open SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager
you will be shown a Microsoft Management Console like the one above. |
| You will need to Right-Click on the SQL Server
Group node and choose New SQL Server Registration. |
You will then then start the Register SQL
Server Wizard. You will be presented with a Starting Screen.
Click Next to get to the above Panel.
You will then put the SQL Server IP Address in the Available Servers TextBox exactly as
show above - Including Port Number.
The IP Address will be in a xx.xx.xxx.xxx,xxxx format.
You will then need to click Add to add the SQL Server to the right panel window.
You can now click Next. |
| You will need to choose Connect Using SQL
Authentication and then click Next. |
| You can then record your username and password so SQL
Server Enterprise Manager does not ask you for a username/password every time you connect. |
When you click Next SQL Server Enterprise Manager will
try to connect to the SQL Server.
Please make sure you have no firewall running that may prevent SQL Server Enterprise
Manager from accessing the internet.
|
| If SQL Server Enterprise Manager was able to find and
log in to the SQL Server successfully you will be presented with the above message. |
You can now expand the new server node on the left
side on the Microsoft Management Console.
Simply expand the new SQL Server Registration node until you find your new database.
You can now manage your new SQL Sever Database using SQL Server Enterprise Manager. |
